Each year, in January, the HU Student Community elects 10 students to form the very exclusive Habib University Student Government.
In November last year, the Election Committee was formed and the planning for 2021 elections was undertaken. The nominations for student government positions were opened in December 2020. After fulfilling the required formalities, the Office of Student Life allowed the nominees to campaign for their respective positions.
The Election Committee (EC) organized an entire campaign week to facilitate student-nominee interactions so that the students, based on informed decisions, could vote for the Executive Council and Cabinet Chair positions.
The Elections
This time around the elections were held online-yet another first for Habib University! The Elections commenced on 24th Jan 2021 and lasted for four days. The Habib Student Community welcomed the online elections and we saw substantial engagement from their end.
On 28th Jan 2021, the Election Committee along with Vice President Academic Affairs, Dr. Christopher Taylor, and Director Student Life, Shamez Mukhi, announced the results in real-time of the elections to the HU community.
The New HUSG
The newbies comprise of a group of young enthusiasts, eager to carry the baton being passed onto them by the HUSG-2020 and doing more!
The following students have been elected by the community to bridge the gap between students and administration, and help take the community forward as a whole:

Cabinet of Disciplinary, Rights, and Advocacy: Fareezah Danny Sidhwa
Cabinet of Food and Hygiene: Iqra Asim
Gavel Ceremony
The Gavel ceremony was held on 4th Feb 2021, at the Amphitheatre in the Golden Hours. The 10 newly elected members of the HUSG took their oath and the out-going HUSG handed over the gavel to the newly elected HUSG. A bittersweet affair!
The gavel ceremony marks the final step in the transition of power and responsibility between the Student Governments.
