“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

– Martin Luther King, Jr.

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference for the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

Students at Habib University have always given their time to the community by volunteering. Some of the ways, the students have volunteered ever since the inception of the University:

  • serving as Student Government

  • Volunteering in Clubs & Chapters and HU Events

  • Engaging in Community Service

  • Helping peers and community

But volunteerism doesn't limit itself here. The HU Community takes pride in its unity and strength, especially, when every member of this family, helps each other - be it just giving directions, cheering up a fellow Habibian, or helping solve a difficult question, volunteerism is at the heart of the HU Community.

"Success and opportunities have been shown to be the outcome of not only our skills and competence but, and in instances decisively so, of other chance factors. A cosmic lottery, if you will, that has advantaged us and disadvantaged others who are just as talented. This profound realization compels us to question our notion of self, to view the world differently, and more concretely to give back and to give of ourselves. Service, as a Yohsin value, permeates every student's journey at Habib and is made tangible through curricular initiatives like Khidmat."

Waqar Saleem, Assistant Dean DSSE

"The term volunteerism to me is about selfless giving. Giving includes one's time, knowledge, attention and material resources to those who are in need. It is also about practicing, enhancing and demonstrating our strong innate values like humility and gratitude."

Nooruddin Merchant, Senior Associate Library & Educational Prg.

"Volunteerism for me is going beyond individualism. A thinking for the greater good of the community. It is honestly such a fulfilling task and everyone should do it."

Hajra Khurram, SDP 2021 - Student

"Volunteerism is a community service which one does to give back to the community in which one thrives in. For me, volunteering is all about giving back to the space you're in."

Yusra Shaikh, CND 2022 - Student
